Hi all,

I compiled GNUPLOT from source because I make use of features which are not available in the GNUPLOT in the repos.

For whatever reason, I can't compile octave from source without jumping through a lot of hoops (compile errors from one of Ubuntu's libs from the repos). I'd like to simply select octave from synaptic or apt-get it, but it will overwrite my custom GNUPLOT install. Can anyone tell me how to bring it over without the GNUPLOT?

Thanks!

I didn't know about checkinstall, but it's great!

Sorry to bother you all.
