It was quite a task for me to make my Jaunty desktop look like the one on my MacBook Air :frown:. If the Mac look gives a certain feel to using your Ubuntu desktop, read on. The process is easy, but too involved. If all you want is the wallpaper, this guide is not for you. I ll get down to every tid-bit about making Gnome look like a Mac. For those of you using Kubuntu, theres a slightly different approach. You might want to go here.
Let me tell you that this isn't intended for absolute Newbies to Ubuntu. (Try wetting your hands a bit, a poke or two around the place will do you a lot of good. Try getting The Ubuntu Pocket Guide by Keir Thomas (http://www.ubuntupocketguide.com/download/ubuntupocketguide-v1-1.zip)if this is your first time around) . Lets get started! Id recommend that you save this page for later reference to tweaking your Desktop. This wont be a pure How To, Wherever possible I'll sneak in tips to refining your desktop experience. Anyone can add in suggestions, and I'll edit this post to get them in wherever possible. :D
The How To :
There are a couple of How Tos' and blogs out there on how to get this done. All I did was read them, refine them, add my own experience with stuff and then put it all together . Before I go on any further about tweaking your desktop, lemme show you how it might look like in the end, so that you have a mark to acheive. Here is a screenshot of my desktop. Depending on how you go about it, chances are you will end up with something similar to this...

Well, much of what we do here will involve material from the Mac4Lin project. You might want to get their latest release here (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=204373). Beyond that youll find links all through out this article linking you to stuff youll need. (I have tried my best to ensure the links are safe.) Incase you come up with something you cant get to from here, you know what to do -Google (http://www.google.com) up!
For those of you with cards like Intel 945GM, or those which supported Compiz but now, they dont, try this -
mkdir -p ~/.config/compiz/ && echo SKIP_CHECKS=yes >> ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager
