View Full Version : The Average age of Ubuntu users.

If you use Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Edubuntu etc. What age do you fall in.
Seeing I am 70 I fall in at the 7th position. I will be interesting to see the average age of our user base.

I'm only 12, but I estimate that the most users come from the 20-40 year old range.

I'm 48! I remember life before computers...
I think that the results of you poll maybe slightly off due to the fact that many who work for a living away from computers (as I do) don't spend allot of time on the forums unless there searching to answer a problem. I've turned a few of my friends on to Ubuntu some of them just use it to check email and play solitar, like me there in the 40-49 range.

So far I am the only one in the 70 to 79 class. And I do remember the invention of TV's. Our first one was a Zenith Round screen and it was black & white. It was a couple of years after that before we got a color set, and half the show were still in B/W. My first computer had 4k of Ram and a B/W TV for a monitor.
I think I am going to be the ancient one out here.
My Wife just told me to put down "older then dirt", she is just trying to be funny.

yep! I predicted the majority would be 20-29, but hopefully ubuntu will keep growing for all age groups.

I think I am going to be the ancient one out here. I think so too, because everyone I know who is around 70 doesn't care or doesn't know how to care for their computer. Last time I was at my grandparents house, they had a TON of viruses and Trojans ](*,)

Well, I'm 15, and my sister uses it who is 8. :)
I'd been expecting people to be a lot older than I thought. Such as 25 to 60+ years. So apparently, its quite normal for younger ones to use Linux.

I have computers all over the house. I even have one in my furnace room. (My Server). I have two laptop and my son run's his computer business out of my house. (I was an IT guy when I worked and had the computer business before I gave it to my son). Now you can see why I use and like Linux and Ubuntu is the best. Great for servers and desktops.

As with most of these polls there is a strong peak in the 20 to 29 followed by under 19. This is for the most part a very young community and this does not bode well for the future of Microsoft.

By the way one way to predict what a 40 year old will choose 20 years from now is to look at what a 20 year old has chosen today.

The technology has changed dramatically from the high school math class I took called "Computer Programming." Back then, it was a TRS-80 (dual 5.25 floppy drive), and we used a language called BASIC. The operating system was TRS-DOS (MS-DOS hadn't quite taken over the PC market).

One thing this poll tells me is that the popular age of the users on this forum is from 20 to 29 with the teens following close behind and that shows me a great future for Ubuntu users and other Linux distros. If this trend continues Linux user's with grow and Windows user's will shrink.
