View Full Version : [ubuntu] Sony VAIO and NVIDIA

ok .. i have tried and tried to get the NVIDIA drivers to work with UBUNTU ... i have tried fresh clean installs from 8.04 to the latest 9.04 .. to the Ultimate Edition flavors ... i have used the restricted driver tool that comes with ubuntu to EnvyNG tool ... i have tried the various manual how-to's out there as well ... i have tried installs with no updates to installs with the latest updates ... and the NVIDIA drivers just do not work ... am i just SOL using a Sony VAIO laptop ...??

btw my NVIDIA is a GeForce Go 7600

Sony VAIO VGN-FE890
4GB Ram
320GB HITACHI 7200RPM
Dual Core 2.0 CPU

txs for any help .. i like to switch from windows ...
oh .. and i have ext monitor too ...

oh ... i have also tried manually .. and with the install nvidia driver from 71.xxx to 185.xxx .... no go .. always fail and i have to use low graphics mode ...


please any thoughts ...

Found the solution when doing a search on converting the desktop kernel to the server kernel ...
