Hi! I have an external usb hard drive, I have organized it in this way:
sdb1 ntfs Documents
sdb2 root Ubuntu 8.10 partition file system ext3
sdb3 swap
sdb4 root Ubuntu 9.04 partition file system ext4
I would like to bring my hd with me to have my ubuntu settings every time I connect it to a pc.
I have no problem if I connect my hd to my hp laptop, but if I try to do the same with my eeepc 901 and desktop pc, I have grub error 17.
I have settled my first hard drive is the usb one in bios settings for each computer.
I have installed grub in my hd, in fact it works very well if I boot my hp laptop from usb hd.
Why does not it work with other pc?
Can not I find out a way to make it work with every pc having usb hd as first hard drive?

I think it's because of different hardwares. The system just configers that computer's hardwares. Or it will be really portable!;)
