I just got my 9.04 in the mail from ShipIt.

But there's just a choice of slightly different solid brown desktop backgrounds.

Did they discontinue the animal icon? I kind of like the drawing of the Heron on 8.04.

You're right about the Heron. That really was a high-water mark for background art. I don't know why they chose such a bland background for jackalope. I was hoping that they could do something cool with the antlers that was fractal in nature, but perhaps they just decided to go with something that new users wouldn't find surprising or odd.

Anyway, let's hope that we see a big shift with Karmic.

The best way to change something is to contribute. I assume both of you are subscribed to the mailing list? Do you provide feedback on the wiki? (Link (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Karmic/Backgrounds))

It is not just artists, we need all sorts of technical people as well.

fractal antlers! Now there's an idea.

Hey, while they're at it, if they're going to continue to give releases animal nicknames, how about the sound of that particular animal on login?

I admire the landlord as if the rolling river. . . Not absolutely continuous. . . Another example is the Yellow River flooding. . . Out. . . And out of control. . . I finally got around to checking the wiki, and, dumb me, a jackalope is mythical beast, a folkloric creation. (Maybe I was confusing it with the Antelope Jackrabbit, which really exists).

As for the sound:

It has also been said that the jackalope can convincingly imitate any sound, including the human voice. It uses this ability to elude pursuers, chiefly by using phrases such as "There he goes! That way!"
