View Full Version : [ubuntu] Sluggish performance on KDE apps using Compiz

Hi everyone. :)

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my laptop. My 2 only KDE applications are Kate and Kmess.

I have compiz desktop effects enabled too.

In both apps I noticed that their performance is very sluggish, specially when scrolling text and changing tabs. The screen image does not refresh itself.

My video card is a nVidia Geforce Go 7300 and restricted drivers are installed too, version 180 [Recommended].

I had to disable compiz desktop effects so I could use Kate and Kmess smoothly.

Have that happened with you too?:(

I can confirm the issue.

With compiz enabled kde application often does not refresh their user interface.
Disabling compiz solves this.

Another thing:
I only have this problem on my laptop and not on my desktop pc.
Both have Ubuntu 9.04 with some kde app installed (kate, kwrite, kompare).
The desktop is amd 64 (but with 32 bit ubuntu) with a nVidia 6600.
The laptop is an asus with a Core 2 Duo t7300 and nVidia 8400M G (32 bit Ubuntu 9.04 too)

Do you suggest something (other than disabling compiz) to solve this?

Thanks in advance

I have the same problem. It was particularly annoying when reading pdfs in okular.

I found the following link very helpful, I would say it fixes the problem.

Good luck!

I too am experiencing the same exact problem. I just posted a new thread about it. I'll check the link and see if it helps.

Thanks.

nvidia drivers are buggy. try the workaround linked, or upgrade to the latest drivers to see if it fixes the problem.
