View Full Version : [gnome] Number of windows open is limited - blank windows

I have Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit running Gnome and I'm seeing some serious problems as follows:

I cannot open more than a few windows on the desktop - about 15 or so - before new windows come up blank. This problem doesn't occur on my Toshiba laptop running the 32-bit version of Ubuntu 8.04.

The Firefox version 3.0.10 browser running on the 64-bit machine shows windows that break up during scrolling. Again, the 32-bit system is free of this problem.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Phil

How much ram do you have & how much swap? 64 bit does use a little bit more ram than 32bit, maybe it put you over the needed amount of cache.

I have 4GB RAM and ~500GB free disk space for my home directory and ~300GB free for my OS partition. My swap is set to 16GB. All my OS directories are under the root partition. It doesn't appear that I'm using any swap space when the window problems show up.
Thanks,
Phil
