cant get 8.04.2 to install

trying to install ubuntu 8.04.2 on amd athlon xp running at 1.5 mgz.with 512 megs of ram.running windows me.i tried installing it directly from the web site and my computer just shuts off and reboots.i downloaded the live disk and burnt it to cdrw using nero burning rom.when i try to install it from the disk it calculates the checksum,and then displays"could not access the cd.make sure no other programs are using it.can someone help me figure this outwont install.

Did you burn it as an image not data? Try using a CD-R. Also burn it at the slowest possible speed. You have to then boot from the CD to install. Make sure your optical drive is set to first in BIOS on the boot order.
