Hi there,

Seeing as 9.04 has rendered my machine worthless, could anyone explain the process of downgrading back to 8.10 or 8.04? I need my machine back pronto but I also can't afford to loose all my files.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks.

Hi, you would need to backup your important stuff and do a clean install, there is no easy way to roll back a release.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

So that's it then - an upgrade has totally ruined my previous, near-perfect setup and there's no way to fix it other than to wipe all my hard work? What a farce.

So what would you say was the best way to backup my files from this state?

Since you most probably will have to reinstall anyway, you could try out the stuff in the link below:

Look into rsync to set up a backup. You can create an exact copy backup or an archived one. It can even be scheduled to run using cron, or just bash scripted to run manually.

Just reinstall 8.10 with Live CD and select to save your fav settings from 9.04.
This should overwrite 9.04 back to 8.10 as it was before.
