A few apps have the ability to "hide" and instead go to the tray instead of quitting (eg. Banshee and Pidgin IM) completely. Is it possible to have all apps sort of hide instead of quitting? It doesn't really make sense to have Alt+F4 and Ctrl+Q for quitting

Theres something called alltotray, or something like that, I believe, but I've never used it. Have a poke around add/remove or synaptic.

Hope that helps

yes, it is called alltray

if you want to launch for example firefox in the tray run 'alltray firefox' instead of 'firefox' with alt + F2. the you can modify the launcher too.
