Hi all, Please I just downloaded a LIve CD Of Dspace based on ubuntu 8.04 from http://hdl.handle.net/2160/565 .

I would like to install it permanently on my hard drive but there's no option for me to install. Can you please guide me on how to get the livecd content onto the harddrive.

Am ready to post the content of any bootloader file that would allow me to install directly unto the harddisk .Am new to ubuntu but willing to learn.

.thank you

Thank you

As hansdown said, the livecd isn't installable. Here are a couple of pages for for DSpace (it says Ubuntu 8.04 but it might be transferable to 8.10)...
http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/Main_Page
http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/Installing_DSpace_1.5_on_Ubuntu_8.04

Sorry its on ubuntu 8.04. I have tried those manuals to install dspace and it's not working so I want to try the live cd to say how it works. besides I need to do an evaluation asap.

@hansdown (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=608207) I know it does not have an installer that's why am asking here in ubuntu forums incase there's an easier way to add an installer to the iso?.Thanks for your time.

Looks to me like it's only designed to be run in a live session from the dvd. In other words, not installable to your hard drive:

Burn this .iso file to a DVD, and boot your computer using it. The latest version of the Live CD is 'DSpace Live CD - 1-5-0 v2.iso' Log in using the username 'dspace' and the password 'dspace'.

But if you mean copy the iso to the hard disk, and boot it from there by adding a grub menu entry, that's probably possible. For instance, I know how to boot rescue cds and the ubuntu live cd iso contents from hard disk

Logos34 would that make the distro run like a normal ubuntu install? or it would be an install hack, cos I want to be able to store information on the pc just like a normal ubuntu install.thanks

logo34's solution will work, you can write to disk permanently but not save any settings to the OS. Its like having a frozen Drive, very good idea for a network cafe or school lab.

right, you could save stuff, but not change any system config settings, I think. Personally, I've only booted the live cd iso from hdd to install, never played around on the desktop.
