Hi

I wanna start using Ubuntu but somehow it won't work.
I got an empty harddrive and the newest Ubuntu 9.04 burnt to a CD, just as discribed.
When I restart my computer it says "Operating System not found". I've tried using a pendrive and no luck there either.

I run Vista on another disk but it shouldnt affect it should it?
I've changed the bootmenu and even excluded the internal hardrive but still nothing.

Please help me. I really wanna use Ubuntu :D

Should work. Maybe there was a problem with the download/burning? Maybe there is a problem with the CDROM-drive? I'd suggest you start booting another CD that you have, for example your Vista-installer/recovery-CD. Does it boot? If it does, I'd burn the Ubuntu-CD another time. Does not work? Then download the file again.
Can you print the particulars of the file that you downloaded here?

are you saying it wont boot into the cd or when u install after it says that

remove all usb's anything attatched to the pc that could interfear

change the bootmenu to look only for the sata hard drive

!.sata
2.Usb X
3.Floppy X
4.SD card X

should look like that
X= remove from boot order

This happened to me, awhile back, you have to burn your disk using the slowest speed possssible.

Annoying I know, but depending on what cd, and cdrom your using it will help.

Try that out

If my CD-drive for some reason is the issuse shouldnt I be able to plug the harddrive into another PC and install it that way?
Then I'll just move the harddrive over to my other computer, right?

That seems like too much work, you shouldnt have to do that.

Try to re burn your ubuntu install disk.

Or, download

unetbootin

And use a usb drive to install.

It works well for me

It was said that the user already changed the boot order, so there must be an issue with the install disk

I've tried this. Even excluded the internal harddrive from boot options.
But I'll have a crack at burning it even slower, x1 if possible.

Thanks for all the fast replies.

No problem i'll keep an eye on this thread, let me know what the out come is.

But, make sure you've changed the boot order..

Again: Try to insert any other bootable CD to make sure that the drive is okay, and that it is set to be the first one to boot. Depending on what you have lying around, that might be much faster and easier than burning with low speed!

Havent got any sadly. Pre-installed vista but I'll burn a new copy with dvd-decrypter at the speed x1 and then install it using a second computer. If that somehow doesnt work I suppose it's just not meant to be. =(

If that doesnt work, do you happen to have a usb drive..

And what size is it?

Okay, well that will do just fine =)

The fastest way that I've found.. to install Ubuntu, or about 30 other Linux Distros is using Unetbootin.

Google unetbootin, and download it. it will allow you to boot from a usb disk.

Very quick and works just fine =)
