I have tried this on my Grandma's Computer. Which broke it, then I had to reinstall with the Text Disc, that made it broken too. So I had to reinstall Windows XP on there. When I log in it freezes when loading the desktop and the HDD Access stops. Is this major?

Download and run the Dell Diagnositics. That would be the first step towards finding and fixing the problem. If you don't find any hardware failures, I recommend nuking the hard drive or at least a zero fill to make sure it's clean.

I know it's a "duh" but you have cleaned the optical drive haven't you ??

I downloaded Jaunty and burned it on 3 separate disks. One of the 3 failed when I did a media check, but the other 2 were fine and I'm currently running Jaunty on a Dell installed with a disk burned on another Dell, so I'm not experiencing the problem you describe.
