Problems Installing from CD

I'm trying to install from the cd one I got through the mail. When it brings up the very first screen it is as if my video card drivers are not loading. The screen is fuzzy/grainy & has vertical lines. I am using ATI Radeon I think it's the 6400 series but it's definitely ATI Radeon. I am a baby when it comes to Ubuntu. This is my first time for trying to use it b/c
I HATE WINDOWS.

Please help me.
