am having a problem with a routine update on 7.10. I try to update the following files with the update manager:

libkrb53 (version 1.6.dfsg.1-7ubuntu0.1) will be upgraded to version 1.6.dfsg.1-7ubuntu0.2
libvolume-id0 (version 113-0ubuntu17) will be upgraded to version 113-0ubuntu17.2
linux-headers-2.6.22-16 (version 2.6.22-16.61) will be upgraded to version 2.6.22-16.62
linux-headers-2.6.22-16-generic (version 2.6.22-16.61) will be upgraded to version 2.6.22-16.62
linux-image-2.6.22-16-generic (version 2.6.22-16.61) will be upgraded to version 2.6.22-16.62
udev (version 113-0ubuntu17) will be upgraded to version 113-0ubuntu17.2
volumeid (version 113-0ubuntu17) will be upgraded to version 113-0ubuntu17.2

The problem is I cannot connect to the update server. Below is the error I get:

7.04 is no longer supported and so the repos have been closed. It is recommended to upgrade to 9.04 or the 8.04 LTS

apparently I missed the linux-source-2.6.22 update. I see the website is using 2.6.24 for the new kernal update. How do I download 2.6.22?

Thanks,

Mark

There will be no more updates for 7.10; it is no longer supported. Try 8.04 or newer.

Thanks for the information! I have tried 8.04 and hated all the bugs... went back to 7.10. I guess I will try 9.04. How stable is 9.04?

How stable is 9.04?

Not very; I recommend 8.04 if stability is a big concern. (Also, 8.04 will be supported longer than 9.04, until April 2011.)

Both 8.10 and 9.04 have been extremely stable for me (64-bit).

This is an issue. I like also 7.10. The taste of 8.10 was not so sweet as I expect, which make me stay back to 7.10. From 5.xx(my first Ubuntu) up to 8.xx, 7.10 was the best trade. At my office I use pentium3, what chance have I to run 8.xx or 9.xx?
Operating systems get heavier and heavier, and this disease seems that does not affect only Windows.
