Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good MP3 player that's not manufactured by apple;)

Things I'm looking for:

Lot's of space 12gb+ or less with expansion capabilities (e.g. an SD card slot)
Preferably a screen
Lot's of format support such as flac (not totally necessary but nice)
playlist support
looks nice:)

Oh also it has to be reasonably priced none of this £200+ stuff I'm not afraid of Chinese pmp's as long as they've got good reviews online and there made by a named company! (none of this nolkia or sumsang ;))

Thanks in advance!

Something by COWON. I bought a D2 because it has Flac support, and I couldn't be happier with it.

My friend (http://www.google.com) helped me find this (http://reviews.cnet.com/4321-6490_7-6644543.html)...I'd go for the SanDisk...

I have the Sansa Fuze 8GB with an additional MicroSD card. I won't say the experience is perfect but it is the best portable player I have owned.

Remember to apply the firmware upgrade then you have very good vorbis and flac support.

I have owned both the Cowon D2 and Sansa Fuze and their both extremely good MP3 Players. You should choose the Sansa Fuze if you want to save some money as you can get a 8GB Sansa Fuze for less than $100. If you want the best-of-the-best you should get the Cowon D2 (http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/cowon/d2/) or the newer Cowon S9 (http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/cowon/s9/).

Sansa fuze if you want to save money and like operating your mp3 player
while its still in your pocket.

Cowon D2 is a better player for video and other cool features.

I got a Cowon S9 32GB. Excellent player, the touchscreen is amazing and video quality is beautiful (better than my TV ).

There's no expansion slot though, I'm not sure how much that matters to you.

Can't complain about the 55 hour battery life either.

EDIT:forgot to add that using it with bluetooth headphones (I use the Motorokr s9hd) is the coolest thing ever.

I just shopped players recently because I thought my old Iriver had died. I would go with Cowon in a heartbeat.

FLAC is best for archiving and places where you have lots of storage. I keep my music archived in FLAC format so I can go back and re-encode it into whatever I want without quality loss (never transcode between lossy formats). You won't hear any difference through the ear buds with FLAC. As for an MP3 player, no idea.

Hey bsharp, I'm glad you did this edit!!!!
Slightly off-topic, but nonetheless, Do you mean you use that headset with the MP3 player or with your computer? is this the one you refer to??? -> http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-MOTOROKR-S9-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B000SNOT4C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1243501804&sr=8-1

If yes. Do you use it on 8.10? Is it easy to get it to work?

Thanks!

Another vote for anything by Cowon, especially the iAudio devices if you can afford them. Their players are just incredible. They play pretty much every single format you can think of and identify themselves as generic USB devices so you can use them on Linux and have your media player programme use it as its music library.

For wide audio format support just choose a rockbox compatible MP3 player, it works just great :
http://www.rockbox.org/

I have it on my old sansa and it offers me way more features than the original firmware (which i can still boot anyway).
