Another member of these forums has created a usplash theme called ubuntu-usplash-smooth. However it doesn't work with jaunty, does anyone here know if it's possible to get a smooth version of the jaunty bootloader?

Volanin, the user who created the usplash, is working on it. It doesn't work with anything other than Intrepid at the moment, but he's certainly trying. :-)

Okay, actually I was thinking that since it's open source and all it would be somehow possible to modify it to work with jaunty or that someone may have already done this already...

I love that usplash. When I first saw it on Intrepid I thought they should set it as the default for Jaunty.

I wonder whether this is still be worked upon, the gnome-look Ubuntu Usplash Smooth page (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=93386) doesn't seem to have been updated recently;
"Version 0.4 packages for Jaunty Alpha 1 will be created soon."
Alpha 1 was a while ago...

I'm starting to think it's not going to be made...
