View Full Version : [ubuntu] upgrade to GUI w/o internet

May 15th, 2009, 04:23 PM
I need to apt-get gnome-core on my freshly installed Ubuntu Server 9.0.4 64-bit.

The Problem I have is I have wireless internet via my 3g Phone, I need to somehow install the Drivers for a D-Link DWA1340 (Which I think it recognized already, even if it did how do I make sure which wireless network did it connect to.)

Anyway is there an easier way like through USB Flash Drive, I read quite a few threads but they were old and stated it can't be done. So I want to know if someone finally knows. Since its a fresh install it should be known what packages I have and don't have. Is there a list somewhere that shows what I have and don't have.

I was also thinking since ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Xubuntu are essentially the same, is that true for the server edition. If so isn't there a way to go from Ubuntu Bloated version to Ubuntu-Core.

I was thinking maybe go into normal ubuntu via LIVE CD and install the wireless adapter and somehow upgrade the GUI from there.

You can download the alternate-cd ISO. Add it as a repository and then apt-get install the packages.
