I installed ubuntu 9.04 with vista (on separate partitions) and it worked fine. I could select between vista and ubuntu in the grub menu. But I tried mucking around with my mediadirect button on my dell to try to get it to boot up ubuntu when i pressed it. Then vista no longer booted up, so I repaired the vista startup using my vista dvd, and now vista works fine but there is no sign of ubuntu, because the grub thing doesnt load up. I'v tried reinstalling ubuntu to get grub back but it still doesn load up. Is there a way to configure grub using windows? Or reinstall it?

Here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=224351) is the basic way to re-install grub. Unfortunately, if you re-installed Ubuntu but not grub at installation time, you might have to manually configure grub to boot Windows. It is not hard. See this HowTo (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows).
