Hope I'm posting this in the right place....
I would like to become a Linux system administrator. One of my goals is to get Ubuntu Certified Professional certification, but I am starting at zero.
What training and certifications should I go for? I live in NJ and work in NYC, so it'd be nice to hear about good training programs in the area. I tried to look use the training program finder on the LPI website, but the drop-down doesn't seem to include the United States as an option (I must be overlooking it or missing something).
So, where should I begin, what do you think a good certification path would look like, and do you know of any training programs located in NYC?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

You could start by getting Linux+ from Comptia:

Thanks for that. I've heard of Linux+. It's the best place to start, then?

Thanks, but there is no option for "United States" on the drop-down for locating training centers. Could be I'm overlooking it, or they failed to include that option. I'd like to find out if there is a location for this near me.

The LPI exam is offered though pearsonvue. The below link should get you started.

Hmm - didn't know that! I'm in the UK, so looking for training in the US obviously didn't apply to me.
You could email them and ask for a list of training partners near you.
Good luck.

John,
What I really need right now are training centers rather than test centers. Thanks, though.

CompTIA's Linux+ cert is a start. Also you can look into LPIC certs - LPI1 - LPI2 - LP3.

Hope this helps
