Hi,
I am trying to set up a ubuntu system using a KVM switch. The KVM switch is blocking the communication between the monitor and the computer so X gives a low resolution and setup.
If I plug the monitor in directly everything's perfect. but when I put it back it's broke
I want to boot the machine with the monitor plugged in
Capture all the settings
and then create an xorg.conf
then boot with kvm and have it work.
I have tried a few times to create xorg.conf's but it's not working.
I know the resolution (1280x1024)
the refresh (60Hz)
and Rotation = Normal

I don't know the driver
I don't know any of the other settings.

I have tried building xorg.conf's but every time I change it breaks x.
I have ubuntu 8.10
Can anyone suggest a method I can use to find the other settings?
thanks
Robert
