This is what I am getting when I run a 'sudo apt-get update' on Ubuntu 7.10:

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

It's been a while since I have run this, but haven't ever had any issues with it. I'm assuming I need to updating my sources to the most current ones but cannot find that list.

Gutsy has reached end of life and may be the mirrors are not working anymore. Since you have mentioned that you have not updated it for a while, I think it's better to do a clean installation of the latest version or the LTS(8.04).
