View Full Version : [ubuntu] Live CD: should I burn .iso contents or .iso itself? Will a DVD work?

I was about to burn a new Live CD when I received this option:

Create disc containing a single disc image file?
It appears that the disc, when created, will contain a single disc image file. Do you want to create a disc from the contents of the image or with the image file inside?
Which is the right choice?

Also, I plan to burn onto a DVD (I am out of CDs and have to complete this now). Will the Live CD environment work properly if burned onto a DVD?

Thanks!

What operating system are you using?
If you currently have Ubuntu with gnome installed, then the easiest and very reliable way to burn an iso is to simply right-click on the iso and choose "write to disc" (or whatever it says exactly). Choose the slowest possible speed.
Yes, a DVD will work.

Thanks, tommcd and zvacet; I had been getting confused because I was using the dialog that appeared when I inserted the disk. I closed the dialog, right-clicked the .iso and wrote it to disk, and the disk does indeed boot properly.
