Having to restart alas-utils everytime I want to play a sound on another program

I'm having trouble with my sound drivers everytime I go to play like a video from YouTube and then go and try and play a song on my movie player or anything else for that matter I have to restart my sound device because it seems to lock up the sound to the one program and it only allows sound to play from somewhere else when you close out the program that is using the sound and restart alas-utils. As you can imagine this can get very annoying... I know there has to be a fix for this, how can I fix this?
