Theme install

Good morning to all, every time i download a theme then go to "appearance" to install it, i get them them but it only seems to affect the color and borders and maybe the mouse pointer but nothing else seems to change, icons, folders... no transparency.. Any ideas what im doing wrong? Thanks

Could it be because im using a 64 bit system? Should i delete and reinstall 32 bit?

To do this reinstall i would have to insert the CD and just erase or format the partition where the current Ubuntu is and then install the new 32 bit in it?

I doubt if it has anything to do with running 64-bit.

What type of theme are you trying to install? Are you running Emerald, or Metacity? Do you have compiz-fusion enabled?

Also, if you could provide a link to a theme you're having a problem with, it would help.
