Easiest Way To Install From USB

Having used Ubuntu for the past few months I have migrated over to it on all bar one of the household PCs.

Managed to get a friend in on the act last week and now he wants it on his daughters old Acer laptop but the CD/DVD drive isn't working.

No probs I say I think it can be installed from a USB stick.

Can someone point me in the direction of the simplest and least technical guide or download location which will all me to do this for him.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix only boots from USB (as little as a 1Gb stick will do).

The 8.04 version of UNR is probably more stable than this but not quite so easy to get happening (could be worth the effort though).

Grab the Ubuntu .ISO from www.ubuntu.com (Must be a Live CD)

Get UnetBootin from here : http://lubi.sourceforge.net/unetbootin.html

Start unetbootin.
Select Iso image.
Click Start.

You have a usb in less than 5 minutes :D

Just plug it in the laptop.
Configure it too boot from USB.

BAM! You've nailed it :P

I'll keep my fingers crossed it all goes smoothly. Just remind them it is not Windows and warn them to get ready to change their computing pre-conceptions a little!

Yeah and Please make them dualboot...Never ever completely switch to Linux if you've no experience..I mean there are success stories but not everyone is as adamant on learning ;D
