Man, I spent a good fifteen minutes (in between putting away dinner) on a scathing diatribe dedicated to our latest fit-n-split, only to find the thread I was replying to was deleted in the meantime.

And, of course, I lost the contents of the post. http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee303/Dngrs_1/argh.gif

Maybe I should write up a nice little letter to those kind people who donate their time to tell me and every other satisfied Ubuntu customer how much our OS sucks... maybe the forum gods here would sticky it.

Yeah, right. http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee303/Dngrs_1/rolleyes.gif

Rant? Perhaps you should take it to the Backyard... er, that's gone. :D

You could discuss this issue with a Staff Member here: http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=123 if you'd like.

I enjoy reading the rants about how Ubuntu is so bad. I think it is qreat that somebody that doesn't have time to read the instructions has taken the time to post and attempt to lead us all to a better OS.

Just keep the text around. I guarantee there will be another opportunity in the (near) future to use it. Seems like whiners ("I'm going back to Windows!") have a hard time keeping it to themselves.

Meh, I'll have to recreate it... next time, I use text editor! http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee303/Dngrs_1/nod.gif

I'm in the middle of writing a Trolling Linux Howto. It's quite bulky, and I'm not even halfway done yet. It will discuss tactics and include real world examples from FUD professionals as well as your ten-a-penny disgruntled user. I'm also making a few python scripts that will automatically generate nonsensical troll posts to make the troll's life an easier one. I'll be sure to post a link to whichever blogging site I upload it to when it's finished. :)

It's usually a justification for what they see as their own failure. Deep Psychological Undertones are involved in a user saying "I'm going back to Windows!".

It's better to ignore them as they won't get the re-enforcement that they desire.

i.e.

"Ubuntu SUX!"!O!O!!O I is going bk to Windoze!!!!1337!!!"W000t!!!"

and then a helpful forum member replies

"Screw you man, go back to your f******* Windows Partition and tell Bill Gates you Love him, Linus would so own Gates in a fight, he's got 1337 attitudes man".

It really doesn't help.

Don't Enable, Deny.

Sure it does. It helps me feel better. Doesn't that count for something?

Really though, I can relate to and feel bad for (most) of the "going back to Windows" thread authors. I've become unbelievably frustrated over Linux myself. Like frustrated to the point of religious epiphany. But somewhere between the three-thousandth and five-thousandth time I stumbled over a Linux rant on these forums, I started getting callous.

Ah, but that wasn't the type of reply I had in mind. Mine was more along the lines of "your foolish emoting is a meaningless waste of time and energy, and therefor I laugh at you."

They do the same at Windoze forums if you dare criticize the celestial artifact known as Windows 7.
