And yes. There really are 2 separate internet connections in the faster example. (It is cheaper to take the 2 connections than just the 24/1M connection..)

In my country INDIA the cost of Broadband for a home plan is 125 INR/Month. The speed is around 256 Kbps/upto 2 Mbps (this is an ADSL connection). It is cheapest internet service provider in the our country. There are other private service providers who are offering Internet service in the country. But Government owned service provider is the cheapest one.

Here in the UK cheapest is probably some crappy ADSL connection at 512K (can you even get that now? I think 1M is the lowest most ISPs provide now) and that costs anything from £4.99 a month to £15 a month.

Fastest, 50 M with Virgin Media is £50 on it's own. I've got 20 M for £37 a month and it's great!

I'm paying NZ$99 for a package that combines 10GB ADSL2+ (20000kbps, near the exchange) and telephone line with free national calling. It's a fairly good plan and economical for my situation but not the cheapest, which might be something like NZ$80 for a similar plan.

Comparatively, my ISPs naked DSL plan (no home line) is $75 for 15GB so you can see the calling deal is quite good considering our old monopolistic Telecom (Affectionately Telescum) charged over $40 per month for a phone line... Things are improving but it's still not good enough.

If you buy from the big ISP in Australia (Telstra) you pay a bucket load. Something like AUD$80 a month for 1500Kbs down 256 up with only 12GB of bandwidth. (24 month contract)

I am currently with TPG and I get 50GB a month 1500/256 for only AUD$59.95 (6 month contract). I also get $300 worth of credit on my mobile for AUD$19.95 a month, no contract.

Data/Byte caps are commonly 1gig - 10gig (monthly), although *fake* uncapped is also available (Which is good for maybe 100gig/month, ~$180 total).

Main cause of those ludicrous prices/speeds is government interference & incompetence. Thankfully they have started to let private businesses in a bit more so thing are improving.

EDIT: In other news, I'm currently trying to figure out how to prevent rythmbox from eating my bytes with cover art downloads.
EDIT2: Thanks to local mirrors ubuntu repos can run over byte caps that are cheaper but restricted. ~$1 per gig.:)

Back in the day you had free internet if you proved to be a part of learning institution (eg.:student, teacher, scientist,...). I think this still exists, but the speed is really slow.

Now I use a 30€ package which includes 10/10 mbps FTTH connection, VoIP for three phones and IPTV with 3 STBs.
In comparison to others this seems like dream deal :D

Just for fun the most expensive package is for 1 gbps connection which is 1000€.
But it's 1 gbps!

Edit: I've just checked and you can still get internet for free it's ISDN or cable and you only have to provide proof that you're either a student or employee in government or educational institution.
(compared to others this sounds like heaven /yes I'm trolling a bit :D)

Bayan DSL: 899/Month or additional 500 to your phone bill, whichever is cheaper. Used to be great but has turned into poo.

"Wireless broadband" (SmartBro): 999, but disconnects on cloudy days. Also the contract is for 1 PC only. They clone the MAC address and charge you extra of you want to use more than 1 computer.

Yeah, it gets confusing. I think there are a few more ISPs I missed out on. Bottom line is you need to shop around and find one that works. Or just be a cheapskate and park yourself in a mall that has free WiFi. :P

In Sweden I think the cheapest is probably mobile broadband with traffic limited to 1GB/month. Costs about 3 €/month.

The cheapest 24/1 Mbit ADSL connection is about 16 €/month.

I have 100/100 Mbit fibre for 29 €/month. But not everyone can have that though.

Dunno why but BSNL as an ISP fail so miserably in my area. We lose connectivity like 10 hours a day here , That's why i had to go in for Airtel/Bharti.

As per May 2009, in GREECE you can have the following options:

ADSL (added to your standard telephone line costs minimum EUR 16)
16 EUR/month for 2Mbits/sec
22 EUR/month for 8Mbits/sec
28 EUR/month for up to 24Mbit/s (most times 3-12Mbits/s due to cables/traffic)

ADSL + telephony (free national, international phone calls plus 60 minutes for GSM calls)
40 EUR/month for up to 24Mbits/s

ADSL + telephony + cable TV
Many consumers are using the full pack including cable TV and free phone calls.
35-45 EUR/month for up to 8-24Mbits (most cases max=8-12Mbits/s)

3G HSPA (+mobile -broadband)

My personal opinion is that 3G is mobile (+) but not broadband (-) as most cases we have speeds up to 1.7Mbits/s. Also "internet flow" is not stable. The time from "click to load" a page varies due to network's traffic.

That's pretty average in the US (that's what I have, for like $20 more you can get 16 Mbits, but meh). I get the bundle which you get if you get either Cable TV or Phone through them (I get both those and internet :-))

Our problem is not the price. The problem is that all major ISP companies also have other interests and they refuse to say, sell you a 2mbit connection, if you don't also purchase their cable tv and voip service. The internet service is fine, their cable tv a tad annoying and their voip is just grossly overpriced and inferior.

The phone company offers DSL but they refuse to sell you 2mbit connection unless you also purchse a ridiculous land line calling plan with ilimited calls and long distance discounts.

Sadly I will probably obtain a fast speed connection by means other than paying them for services I don't want or need. Until they get their act together leeching it is.

Just like everything in Ireland, broadband is expensive :( But it varies alot depending on your area.

As I'm living in the countryside, I'm not eligble for some of the better value, better speed conections in the city. One example is Irish Broadbands offer, 2Mb/s, 20 Euro, with unlimited downloads, and that would be considered a basic connection. You can get up to 50 Mb/s for Home connections, or 400Mb/s for businesses.

Compare those to a connection in the country. Mine is the most basic, 1Mb/s, 20 Euro, 10Gb download limit. Luckily for me though, my ISP, Eircom, arent very strict on the download limit, as they control all the lines and connections that the other ISP's, such as Perlico, use. Perlico offer cheaper connections (IMb/s, 10 Euro, 10Gb being the lowest), but, as they pay Eircom for usage of the lines, are very strict on download limits. The fastest connection available in my area is around 20Mb/s, however, the speed really depends on your distance from the connection box thingy (sorry, dont know the name :-k), and anywhere past 5ks from one, and you can forget about broadband at all.

Having said that though, Ireland has good broadband coverage compared to other countries I've been in, I mean like, Wi-Fi is just about everywhere, and if you cant get DSL broadband, theres always HSDPA or satelite :D
