Got tired of my XP freezing, etc.Did total switch to 810 2 weeks ago.I understood drivers, etc were all on the disk I downloaded to my 'puter.I then downloaded 'a file' from Launchpad? supposedly to determine what modem I have but when opened it displays words, symbals and numbers (not binary)that could only make sense to a highly technical mind,if that.
I am using my old Win 98 HD which is slaved to my former XP HD.(My son had shown me how to do that when he was still in school).
My modem is: a US Robotics/model0766/56k faxmodemPCI/R31.0266.00/NAM WM1.5/V.92FaxWinInt/Max speed 115200(just in case someone knows this modem)Can anyone tell a "computer-ill-idiot" how to install a driver to get this dialup modem to work?Thanks-in-advance.Remember to DUMB IT DOWN.Regards

Hi,
Sorry, I'm not running on dialup, but there's a good howto on the wiki: here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DialupModemHowto/SetUpDialer#For%20Ubuntu,%20alternative%20approach %20(using%20gnome-ppp) which should have enough information. Having said that, it appears the gnome applet you need may have to be installed first- have a look here (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-doc/+bug/310331) for a lengthy discussion on the bug list.
