Are you currently running a dual boot?

Did you install within windows?

I had this problem a few times, after about 5 reboots i get the busybox thing. And i reinstalled i think around 3 times. I had no problems with Jaunty but it was kinda too buggy for me. (Currently run Hardy Heron '8.04')

and my specs are:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual
Core Processor 6000+
3.02 GHz, 1.00 GB of Ram

EDIT: Think i found a fix

http://www.squidoo.com/BUSYBOX_FIX_UBUNTU

And I think you might have to reinstall...
