I created a partition to dual boot. I have the HP Pavilion dv2000 with 4 gigs of ram, Turion 64 x2 processor. I'm trying to install Ubuntu 64 bit version 9.04. It will boot from the CD and I select English as the language. I get to the screen that allows me to moved down to the Install Ubuntu option then hit enter. At that point it just hangs there and does nothing at all. I'm curious if it just takes a very long time to start or, if it's not working at all. I don't hear the CD rom spinning, etc. It really seems to be hung. This is my first attempt to do anything with linux so as many details in the response as possible would be apprectiated.

The FIRST thing that you should do is to NOT arrow down to the install option but instead choose the option to check the integrity of your Ubuntu installation CD by running the verification function that is found on that same initial Ubuntu boot screen menu. Have you done that ?
