8.10 Install Blank Screen at Restart

I just received my free 8.10 Install CD.
I booted from the CD and installed Ubuntu via the graphical install screens.
Everything seemed to go smoothly: I could view the install screen on my monitor, keyboard worked, mouse worked.
Once I restarted (per the instructions) I was able to view the ubuntu logo as well as the orange process bar sliding back and forth.
After a few seconds, the screen goes blank and I am unable to do anything.

me too. But when I use graphic safe mode to install, it worked well. And after I installed system, I can use it very well.
