This guy submitted some legendary patent applications.

Above is an image from his application for a patent for a "Photon Push-Pull Radiation Detector for Use in Chromatically Selective Cat Flap Control and 1000-Megaton Earth-Orbital Peace-Keeping Bomb (http://www.futilitycloset.com/2009/05/10/try-try-again-2/)".

He was actually granted 162 patents, details of which are here:

Too bad the nuclear-missile-silo-security-camera-cat-flap never went into production...

:lolflag: I just read this one:

UK Patent No. GB1361962. Pedrick's ultimate deterrent to solve the Cold War. The UN places three nuclear bombs on earth-orbiting satellites. If these detect that one of the superpowers has been nuked by one of the others, they are automatically programmed to drop on Washington, Moscow and Peking, ensuring the mutual destruction of all three.

Nice. Now that's what you call Mutually-Assured Destruction.

Haha! Brilliant stuff.

Anybody remember IBM's patent on patent-trolling (http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%2220070244837%22.PGNR.&OS=DN/20070244837&RS=DN/20070244837)? [uspto.gov]

I liked the mutually assured destruction idea, as long as it stays theoretical.

MAD was a very real possibility for a very long time.

Go read up on Able Archer 83 sometime. It may illuminate your view on things.

[uspto.gov]You have to be kidding me, I was going to do that!

Seriously, I actually was going to do that, but I rejected the idea because business plans can't be patented.

Doesn't hurt to try (http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%2220080235220%22.PGNR.&OS=DN/20080235220&RS=DN/20080235220). And try again (http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=7,407,089.PN.&OS=PN/7,407,089&RS=PN/7,407,089). Majority of them were never granted, just applied for.

These are just applications and there is no guarantee that they are ever going to be granted. Or what changes the patent office is going to require. You can view the public pairs to see their latest status.

Read the link in the OP. It says he applied for 162 patents, it doesn't say how many were actually granted.

This patent (http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?patentnumber=7,407,089) [uspto.gov], for storing a preference about whether your customer prefers paper or plastic bags, at least, was granted.

He was granted at least this many:

http://www.patent.freeserve.co.uk/pedrick2.html

According to IP Review he got 162 granted:

http://www.cpaglobal.com/ip-review-online/widgets/notes_quotes/more/1747

Although the BBC says he filed "more than 50".
