View Full Version : [all variants] Looking for web content filtering.

I need to set up a web filter for my Ubuntu Jaunty and (possibly) my Windows XP machine. I definitely don't mind (Heck, I want) a hardware based filter, as in I connect to the internet through another PC that acts as a modem. I found instructions here (http://www.geek.com/articles/chips/feature-buiding-a-mini-itx-web-content-filter-with-ubuntu-20090116/) but I don't want it to affect the other 3 computers in my house.... Ideas?

EDIT: I already have a small PC laying around that I could use, so purchasing hardware is not an issue.

Try DansGuardian.

There's a pretty simple guide at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Servers/DansGuardian

For a commercial alternative try CensorNet Pro. There are packages for Ubuntu 8 Server or a self-install CD which will install a barebones version of Hardy onto a dedicated server / VM. Link: http://www.censornet.com

There is also a GPL version which is based on Debian 2 (or 3, can't remember) however its no longer supported but available at http://opensource.censornet.com
