anyone read any of the Linux magazines out there? I always see a pretty big selection; something geared toward beginners that still offers challenging, worthwhile stuff would be cool.

It's in my signature, altough it's kinda ubuntu oriented, it's great for beginners.

I subscribe to linux format and it's ok. If my job wasn't paying for it I might not actually be that bothered about it (I tend to feel that way about mags in general though) but it does have some good things in there from time to time.

I used to buy Linux Format. But now I'm a long-bearded wizard I find it too n00bish. :p

Nowadays I'm too tight to pay for stuff. But I like Full Circle and I've also been known to peruse linuxjournal.

Full Circle and Linux Format here. :)

w/ LXF, I like how I can *try* a distro from the CD's without having to download them first, then there's the general articles and stuff. I quite like it.

Linux Format is great - there's a good range of stuff in it and it's nice light reading.

I, too, love the Linux Format - it's not as off putting or elitist as Linux User magazine. You can pick it up and dive right in whatever your level. It also does a great job of explaining more 'in depth' technologies that Joe User might be a bit confused by. It could do with a little smattering of humour here and there, and a dedicated 'newbies section' but other than that it's certainly the premier written Linux resource.

Linux Format is also to thank for my using Ubuntu now! I buy another computer magazine called MicroMart and it had a feature on the eeePC using Linux - and i was a bit ignorant and uninformed and assumed Linux was still some awful command line 'poor persons' Windows. Intrigued and excited that there was a decent, comparable alternative to Windows i went back to the WHSmiths and bought 'Linux Format' - mainly to learn a bit more and try out the free live cd included! Here i am 2 years later! ^_^

Bookmarked! Thanks :)

For some reason it brought back memories of Just Amiga Monthly [JAM], and I mean that in a GOOD way.

Linux Format is what I buy now, but like Joey-Elijah, it was MicroMart which first got me curious about Linux.
Sadly MM's Linux coverage has gone downhill somewhat.
