I have an error message and a fast computer - so short of grabbing a digital camera... is this possible?

I already tried the Break key, and I am sure I could Google it, but this could also be a nice addition to the FAQ.

Thanks.
PS - Also, is there a "bootlog" that would have this?

I was going to suggest the break key, but you've tried that already. You could check the log files to see if the message shows up. All the logs are located in /var/log. The gui way to check the logs is to go to System-->Administration-->Log File Viewer, check the messages log.
