Dell Inspiron laptop Ubuntu 8.04 connects through Nokia 5800 using Gnome-ppp,

Dell Mini9 using same settings and Ubuntu 8.04 remix drops the connection with error 16 (modem disconnected)

Any ideas anyone?

Hi ArchieK,
as above seems to be connected and possibly the provider hangs you up, can you check the APN?
Post here all your /etc/wvdial.conf and any info about your provider (APN, dial number) to check.

Regards,
George

Just discovered that Gnome-ppp was mis-reporting the port the modem was on.

On looking in /var/log/kern.log fouind this:

tail -f /var/log/kern.log
May 9 16:40:43 user kernel: [16585.005216] usb 5-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 8
May 9 16:40:43 user kernel: [16585.136217] usb 5-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
May 9 16:40:43 user kernel: [16585.139502] cdc_acm 5-3:1.1: ttyACM3: USB ACM device

Where Gnome-ppp discovered the modem as /dev/ttyACM1 the correct port was ttyACM3
changed the port and connected fine!

Hope this helps anyone out there with the same problem:guitar:
