Suspected MBR problem after Winxp update

Hi, I have a dual boot system with Winxp and Ubuntu Hardy. Since a recent Windows update on my WinXP I come as far as Windows logo and then it restarts. Question is do I have an MBR issue here and can it be repaired through Linux? I can still contact Winxp folders through Hardy (which still boots normally) but I need both systems up and running for print requirements. Any help greatly appreciated.

Do you have an AMD processor? There was an update earlier this year that caused systems with AMD processors to do the same thing. The low tech method is to keep trying to reboot until it does start properly. I had a couple of customers that used this method before calling me and it worked for them. The right way to do it is to check the Microsoft Knowledge base to remedy the problem.
