I was watching the BBC's Click (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/click_online/) (Tech news programme in the UK) and they were endorsing the GOM Media Player (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/click_online/8039536.stm)

I am right in saying that the GOM Media Player (http://www.gomlab.com/eng/) still Violates the GPL??

http://roundup.ffmpeg.org/roundup/ffmpeg/issue112

I've emailed them about the discrepancy and will wait for a reply 0_o

Sorry, I haven't seen that particular episode yet. But why is it a "discrepancy" for the BBC to endorse non-GPLed software?

it's not that it's not GPL'ed it's that the GOM media player uses FFmpeg and yet fails to give credit

Rather depressing, this is a video, and as such, I can't watch it, as I am not in the UK. Oh well.

Sorry I should mentioned that the video is only available to UK Residents....

But basically one of the presenters is going through her favourite websites and such of the week and then she mentions about how GOM Player is really great and much better looking then VLC

Grab the app get_iplayer from Linuxcenter (http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer/download/). Then use a proxy server located in the UK. Problem solved!

Okay, I'll give it a shot. But I was under the impression that the content was only licensed for UK residents, and as such, I wasn't supposed to watch it.

Nope a UK TV licence is only for watching back live or near live TV feeds so technically you don't need a TV licence to watch it inside the UK.

However the reason they restrict it to the UK public is Because of programmes like "Planet Earth" and "The blue Planet" which they licence out to American TV stations

Oh well, I can't really get it to work, and it looks like I will still need a proxy anyway. So thanks you anyway.
