How do i go back to ubuntu 8.10?

Okay, ive got a bunch of problems with 9.04 and my plan is to revert to 8.01 and then re-upgrade to 9.04. My main problem is i cant figure out how to get back to 8.10. I have tried selecting the cd/dvd as the boot device in the start and that doesnt work. Any ideas on how i can switch back?

The only way back is a clean install, once you have backuped your settings.
