well it took awhile, but they finally released the new version of openoffice, now the only question is when will ubuntu update the repos, if they will at all. They have a linux deb on the openoffice website, however if i remember correctly linux generally uses a veriant called go-oo, anyone know when novell will release this version?

It will be available in the next version of Ubuntu in October.

Don't count on the repository for 8.04, 8.10 or 9.04 to be updated. Only security updates and important bug fixes are added to the repositories for existing Ubuntu releases.

Ubuntu is not a rolling release (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_release) distro.

Thanks for the link and sorry that I'm too much of a lazy bugger to google it myself.

Seems like a nice new release, but I'm quite content to wait for Karmic, not bothered with installing this right away.

I don't really use office-type software very much, so it's not really an issue for me at this time. However, I will be happy it have it in the next release of Ubuntu.

Does it still look like crap? I can't use OpenOffice with my theme because it integrates so poorly.

Do not upgrade to 3.1 using PPA as they are not finished yet. It will not install properly.

Read
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7235696
before installing, and wait for Calc to say it is safe to upgrade.

Should be ready within a week.

I agree, the update only went partially.

@You guys that did the partial install: does the open/save dialogue match that of other gnome apps in ubuntu? or does it have the sparse Sun dialog with no bookmarks?
