I am total noob to ubuntu but wanted to try the latest version since I have heard many good things of it. However, when trying to install it crashes hard my computer an Alienware m15x. I have tried the video compatibility mode but the same things happens. It crashes so hard, that I have to unplug it and remove the battery to restart because even holding power button won't restart. Has anyone had success installing on m15x?http://ubuntuforums.org/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif

The LiveCD does not always agree with all systems out there, and interestingly it primarily affects brand name machines.

Download the Alternate install CD instead. This uses a far simpler (and faster) text-based install mode that will work on the most obscure of PC hardware.

I don't know about threads for 9.04 on this box, but there are tons of threads about 8.04 and 8.10 running on the same model laptop.

Looks like you should be able to get going with a few adjustments to your boot process. The sound has been the persistent issue, but there are a number of solutions to try already enumerated elsewhere.
