Network issue

I cannot get network working. This is a fresh install on a p2-350MHz computer. Network card works fine in Windows. I tried the manual approach by setting the DNS, static IP etc.
If I do ifconfig, I get the local loop address 127.0.0.1

Help me please..

It almost appears the network card is not recognized... Is this a known problem in 9.04?
