xine dvd playback failure

I have been wrestling with dvd playback for awhile and so far xine is the closest I get. I toss in a dvd, run xine and I get this in the terminal first

The opening sequence runs for the dvd for the company/whatnot. Then it chokes and says

I have both libdvdcss2 and libdvdnav4 and libdvdread4 installed. Any ideas?

I had the same problem. This worked for me.
1. Install libdvdcss.
2. Go to the xine setup and click on the "media" tab
3. go down to the "Device used for DVD playback" and change it from /dev/dvd to /media/dvd or media/cdrom
or whatever your dvd is called.
4. restart xine

This is the first time I had to make this change. xine usually works just fine without it,
but for some reason xine couldn't read the dvd listed as /dev/dvd.
