Hello,

I am in the process of upgrading from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04. It has reached nearly 75% of the way into "Installing the upgrades." The last two lines of the terminal read:

Setting up samba-common (2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3)...
Installing new version of config file /etc/dhcp3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/samba ...

Next, a Debconf window has popped up asking what I would like to do with the samba.conf file:

┌────────────────────────────┤ Samba Server ├─────────────────────────────┐
│ A new version of configuration file /etc/samba/smb.conf is available, │
│ but the version installed currently has been locally modified. │
│ │
│ What would you like to do about smb.conf? │
│ │
│ install the package maintainer's version │
│ keep the local version currently installed │
│ show the differences between the versions │
│ show a side-by-side difference between the versions │
│ show a 3-way difference between available versions │
│ do a 3-way merge between available versions (experimental) │
│ start a new shell to examine the situation │
│ │
│ │
│ <Ok> │

I'm not proud of myslip but I selected to "start a new shell to examine the situation." Now, within the Distribution Upgrade terminal it is waiting for my commands to be entered. I am nowhere near informed enough to know what to do next.

The Debconf screen is now blank and locked. If possible I would either like to recommand the upgrade to attempt the samba-common install/configuration or I would like to just skip this and continue with the rest of the installation. How can I fix this situation?

Thanks,

Will

FIX:

1. hard restart
2. boot into recovery mode
3. "fix installed packages"

Better FIX:

1. Type exit
2. Press Enter
