Among the following two video cards:

- ATI Fire Pro V3700 (256MB, DVI+DVI), and
- NVIDIA Quadro NVS290 (256MB, DMS59 Connector to Dual DVI-SL)

which one would work better (or at all) with ubuntu 9.04?

I have always have had really good experiences with nvidia and Linux, my roommate I know had used an ATI card which he swapped out with his nvidia card so that he could run Ubuntu better. I don't know how much the ati driver has improved since then, but the nvidia one runs perfect on my nvidia 7600go.
