Hello
I am currently considering to build a home file server.

I have a few conserns to ask you guys about first.
First my disk setup will be a little special i hope someone can tell me if this would be possible.

I got the following discs.

2 x 320 GB
2 x 750 GB

I would like to get around 3 TB in a raid 3 kind of system so to get that i will buy 2 x 1TB.
That leaves with this

2 x 320 GB
2 x 750 GB
2 x 1TB

So i considered doing a special raid like this

Disc 1: 320 GB
Disc 2: 320 GB
Disc 3: 750 GB
Disc 4: 750 GB
Disc 5: 1 TB
Disc 6: 1 TB

Raid 1: Disc 1 and Disc 3 in a Span or Raid 0
Raid 2: Disc 2 and Disc 4 in a Span or Raid 0

Finally raid 5 with Raid 1 + Raid 2 + Disc 5 + Disc 6
Giving around 3 TB of space.

Secondly i want this to do a few things.
File server with Windows share, FTP support
Media Server (Sharing music and movies over ethernet to my desktop computers) I currently have:
1 x Windows 7 RC (HP Laptop) for school
1 x Windows 7 RC stationary computer with 2 screens (Må gaming computer) the one i mostly use.
1 x Windows XP Home (Girlfrinds laptop) Slow computer. It needs some kind of media center. Unless an other program can be used to connect to the media server. (Not using shares or ftp)

I would also like it to be a domain controller for my domain. Control the windows computers with home shares and so on.

Later i want it to be Mail (Exhange of some kind with IMAP and POP3 support.
LAMP server.

And the computer will also be router/firewall for my home network.

I have this hardware which will be used:
Motherboard: ASUS M2N-E
RAM: Kingston HyperX 2 x 2 GB (Will maybe be 2GB total if nessesary)
Graphics: ASUS EN6200LE TC256/TD(64 MB)
Power supply: cant remember but is 500W

Then im going to buy this:
Phenom X3 8650 2 MB (AMD Processor in a Box (PIB)) (Cooler (fansink))
Additional Network card: D-Link DGE 528T

+ the 6 harddisks mentioned earlier

I can get windows 2008 server versions for free through MSDN Student stuff. So i would like to know if it would be better to use Ubuntu (Which of cause you all think) So most the good/bad things.

Hope you guys can help me.

Thank you
