Please help me! I want to install KUBUNTU 7.10 on HP laptop.
I know it's an old version but I feel very comfortoble with it; I've been using it on a desktop. when I tried to install it with the live CD on my new HP laptop (HP G60-235DX Notebook PC), it doesn't launch the graphic interface, and when I typed the command "dolphin", it says, Error, Dolphin cannot connect to the X server. I've tried KUBUNTU 9.04 but it is much more like vista and I hate it. Plus, in 9.04, I can't access the adept manager...I can't install g++ (without the internet connection bcoz I can't connect to internet with KUBUNTU9.04, nor KUBUNTU 8.04)

please help me!!! I'm desperate, becoz I have a project to complete and I NEED IT!!!!

K/Ubuntu 7.10 is no longer supported. So you will not be able to get any of the updates. If you don't want 9.04 then you could go with 8.10 or 8.04 LTS. The 8.04 LTS will be supported for about 3 more years.

EDIT: Sorry, I did not see that you had also tried 8.04 when I posted this.
Why can't you connect to the internet in 8.04? I think you should work on that instead.
Can you boot the the 8.04 live CD and run ifconfig?
