im trying to install ubuntu to an external hard drive i have, sadly, its not going so well
i can boot from the ubuntu cd, and set up normally, but once it starts to officially installl it does some stuff for a couple minutes then it fgoes to a command prompt like thing, only the entire screen is black with text and whatnot and then i can put in commands. i remember this screen i think from when i installed ubuntu as a virtual machine, but i forgot what i put in. any ideas?
also, say i set up a 2 partitions on my external hdd. one i intended to install ubuntu too and one to serve as some extra space to put music and whatnot (im using vista 64 at the moment),. is there a way to make sure ubuntu installs specifically to the ubuntu partition on the hdd and not touch the other?
